Wacky Racers - Dick Dastley and Muttley at the Festival of Speed

Junior Festival of Speed

The Junior Festival of Speed, situated primarily by the side of the Cricket Pitch, south of The Bridge, is full of fun activities for kids aged from 2 to12. There are lots of things for children to do. Among the most popular attractions have been:

The Wacky Races – see the colourful characters from the Wacky Races© come to life and parade up the hillclimb in life-size working cars. There are now ten fully working vehicles: Penelope Pitstop’s Compact Pussycat; Peter Perfect’s Turbo Terrific; Dastardly & Muttley’s Mean Machine; the Gruesome Twosome’s Creepy Coupe; Professor Pat Pending’s Convert-A-Car; the Slag Brothers’ Boulder Mobile; the Army Surplus Special of Sargeant Blast and Private Meekley; the Crimson Haybaler driven by the Red Max; the Arkansas Chugabug with Luke and Blubber Bear and the Buzzwagon with Rufus Ruffcut and Sawtooth.  The latest (and last) Wacky Racer to be chosen to join this weird and wonderful group of characters is the Bullet Proof Bomb with the Anthill Mob!  ©Dastardly & Muttley and the Wacky Races, and all related characters and elements are trademarks of Hanna-Barbera. © Hanna Barbera and Heatter-Quigley.

Display teams – watch BMX and Skateboard champions Team Extreme perform their acrobatic tricks with amazing skill and daring, and maybe even have a go yourself.  MAD - the UK’s maddest Mountainbike Stunt riders, will be thrilling the crowds with their death defying leaps, jumps, bunny hops and wheelies.

Graffiti Art – for the 3 year running RareKind will be back re-decorating a ‘vehicle’ (not sure what).  They will also hold the popular workshops, giving kids the chance to paint their own mural on canvas.  Competitions will be held, the winners are given the opportunity to paint the Junior FOS wall.

Art Area – take time to paint, draw or write about what you have seen at the Festival and maybe win a prize.

Note: Ear defenders will enable all visitors, especially children, to get closer to the action without feeling uncomfortable. Visit the Goodwood Shop on-site.
